Islamabad: The Islamabad Zero Waste City operation, led by Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, concluded successfully during Eid-ul-Adha, as reported in a news article on June 20.

According to the shared details, over 150,000 sacrificial animal remains, amounting to 2,600 tons, were scientifically disposed of, maintaining Islamabad as the cleanest city during the festival. Minister Naqvi praised Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa and his team.
This unprecedented operation involved the collaboration of CDA, ICT, Islamabad Police, and Safe City, with exemplary cooperation from the city’s residents. A workforce of 2,500 sanitary workers and over 200 machines ensured continuous cleanliness.
The city was divided into 5 zones, each supervised by Chief Sanitary Inspectors, with staff performing emergency duties. For the first time, eco-friendly biodegradable bags were distributed for safe waste disposal. Operations were centrally monitored, and emergency cells handled 150 citizen complaints swiftly.

The three-phase operation involved the door-to-door waste collection, mechanised collection, and disposal. In total, 2,617.52 tons of waste were managed over three days. Staff welfare was prioritised with provisions of food and cold water.
