Karachi: The Sindh government decided to implement Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) that will connect Korangi with Numaish, according to news published on September 3. The government will implement the project through Transport and Mass Transit Department (TMTD) Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) with the financial support of the World Bank (WB).

As per the details shared, it is a 21-kilometre long corridor that will comprise 28 stations, 9 underpasses, two bus depots, and two flyovers. The estimated total cost of the project was USD 438.9 million. Additionally, the bus fleet proposed for Yellow Line BRT – Karachi Mobility Project – will encompass 268 diesel-hybrid vehicles. It is expected to improve transit travel times, reliability, safety, and mobility along the corridor.
Through this project, the authority aims to address the transportation problems of the expansive population. The project is expected to have 300,000 ridership on a daily basis.

To implement the Yellow Line BRT project, the consultancy contract was awarded to Dar-al-Handasah, an international firm, and National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK). The companies will prepare a detailed design, procure support, and supervise the construction of the project. Project Director Imran Bhatti stated that the development of BRT will provide the citizens with reliable and safe transport services.
