Karachi: The World Bank is set to approve a USD 100 million loan for solar energy in Sindh under its “Sindh Solar Energy Program” (SSEP), according to a news report. SSEP is focused around the deployment of solar energy throughout the province by overarching reforms.
Under the scheme, a 400-megawatt solar park will be established and be auctioned through first tariff-based competitive auctions across the country. The project will begin with a 50 MW section which will be located near Manjhand, Jamshoro. The land has been acquired for that. The project is expected to be functional by 2020.
The program targets to bring solar power to a quarter million homes in Sindh, particularly where access to electricity is poor.
