Lahore: The World Bank (WB) has agreed to support the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) in promoting green building practices in Lahore, according to news published in the leading newspaper on June 2.

LDA Director General Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who is also Lahore Commissioner, met a delegation from the WB at the LDA Office. The delegation included Senior Private Sector Specialist Charles Schneider and Private Sector Specialist Reshma Aftab. During the meeting, it was decided that the World Bank to promote green buildings in Lahore.
The meeting concluded that the private sector, builders, and other stakeholders would be encouraged to invest and promote green buildings. The World Bank experts will provide technical support and training to program officers to aid this cause.

Furthermore, it was shared during the meeting that the LDA rules have increased the ratio of rooftop gardening to 50%. Building owners are being encouraged to adopt rooftop gardening and install solar systems. The authority is taking regular steps to promote green building practices and rooftop gardening. Additionally, a plantation drive has been initiated in private housing societies.
