Quetta: The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations arranged a workshop with the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) to discuss methods for sustainable agriculture, according to a news report. The workshop was arranged to highlight the project, Implementation of 4R Nutrient Stewardship for Sustainable Management of Horticultural Crops in Balochistan, and increase the capacity of the provincial governments, the government of Pakistan, and all institutions on the federal level to promote sustainable agriculture.
The workshop was attended by 60 farmers from all seven agro-ecological zones in Balochistan, along with experts from Provincial Agriculture Department, BUITEMS, University of Agriculture Peshawar, K-P, Agricultural Services Departments of Fertilizer Industry, PARC, NARC, NFDC Islamabad, and Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB).
The FAO Chief Technical Adviser and Project Manager Balochistan Marcel Stallen emphasised the need for balanced use of nutrients and water for sustainable horticulture practices.
