Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan has directed the Energy and Power Department to ensure the timely completion of the ongoing solarisation work of provincial mosques and adopt ‘realistic criteria’ for their selection, according to a news source published on September 18.

The CM made these remarks while presiding over a meeting held with the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation to review the current progress of the project. Further, the provincial government has assured the authorities concerned that they would be provided with all the required resources for commencing with the solarisation of mosques.

Moreover, the meeting was informed that five solarized mosques – with a cost estimate of PKR 1,053.82 million – had already been constructed by the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation; with these projects expected to save PKR 82 million in operational expenditures for the national treasury per annum.
Additionally, the session was told that over 6,500 homes, 300 mosques and non-Muslim places of worship had been solarised in different parts of the province under this scheme; with 6,000 more mosques being solarised at a total estimated cost of PKR 3,734 million. Overall, these projects would save PKR 348 annually for the national exchequer.
