The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has said that construction of roads and allied work underneath the newly-constructed Gizri Flyover had begun and was likely to be completed by July 15, 2010.
A meeting of the DHA Executive Board held here on Tuesday was informed that the work on the construction of roads under Gizri Flyover had been inordinately delayed due to repairs and renovation of the underground water supply and sewerage lines being carried out by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board. The Commander, V Corps, Lt-Gen Shahid Iqbal, who is also president of the DHA Executive Board, chaired the meeting.
The Executive Board meeting also approved waiver of complete surcharge on additional development charges levied on plots in DHA Phase-VII Extension, Phase-VIII and Phase-VIII extension for the residents who pay their complete dues from 16 June to 15 September, 2010.
The Executive Board was informed that all preparatory works and plans of DHA and Cantonment Board, Clifton (CBC)were in place to meet any contingency during Monsoon 2010. Coordination with various agencies has been implemented by the DHA and drains, Nullahs, and sewers were cleaned to ensure smooth drainage of rain water.
The Administrator, DHA, Brig Khalid Tirmizi, informed the meeting that the DHA’s new drainage system worked efficiently during the recent rains under the cyclonic system validating its efficacy. Areas where the drainage system had not been extended were inundated. He cautioned that in case of heavy rains in future, the situation may get exacerbated in the DHA areas in question unless the essential drains were made there.
