Islamabad: Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Khusro Bakhtyar on Thursday (September 17) said that the government had expedited the work on the development of special economic zones (SEZs) and socio-economic projects launched under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative, a news source reported.

The minister further revealed that the development work on many of CPEC’s early-harvest project had been completed; with some nearing this stage. He shared this information in a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jao Jing.
During the session, Bakhtiyar mentioned that CPEC represented the ‘symbol of strategic and economic partnership’ between the two countries; with the initiative anticipated to benefit both.

The minister, additionally, appreciated Jing’s role in strengthening the Pakistan-China relationship and acknowledged the latter’s support in helping Pakistan improve its socio-economic structure, infrastructural facilities, and national security profile. In response, Jing said that China would continue to strengthen its socioeconomic partnership with Pakistan.
