Rawalpindi: Work on construction of Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) is to start off in January 2018, a news source quoted Rawalpindi Development Authority Chairman Arif Abbasi. The project has been pending for the last fifteen years. However, PKR 200 million have finally been reserved for it during the current fiscal year to kick off the development work.
The scope of RRR project is being expanded in the form of private-public partnership. As per the new plan, the road will have a huge economic zone, which is in addition to the construction of colleges, universities, and IT centres along it. A huge chunk of land is also to be reserved for construction of IT University.
Abbasi also revealed plans regarding the extension of RRR, according to which the road will be linked with Soan River in Rawalpindi. Furthermore, all fruit and vegetable markets in the city will be shifted to the vicinity of the ring road. This will improve traffic flow in the populated parts of the city.
Abbasi also vouched to not tolerate any delays in the project, adding that all stakeholders will thoroughly be consulted for the project. He also said that 2019 will be the year to see initiation of development work for many projects in the district.
