Prime Minister Imran Khan will lay the foundation stone for the project in February and the project is expected to be completed in two years at an estimated cost of PKR 50 billion. Both the Punjab and Federal governments will fund the projects.
The expressway will be completely signal-free and will include the construction of four or five bridges. The highway is expected to help lower the traffic load on Murree Road by about 60-70 per cent.
The minister said that tracks will also be laid for a mono-train in the middle of the expressway for an expected train service.
