Lahore: CEO Pakistan Railways Ijaz Ahmed on Wednesday announced that the development work to lay a track for the Main Line (ML)-1 project will commence later this year, according to a news source. As per the publication, the Railways CEO shared this information during a press conference.

In addition, Ahmed revealed that the Pakistan Railways was in the process of signing a contract with a private transport company, which will set up its pick up and drop off points at various railway stations. The passengers travelling to the stations via this company’s cars will get a 20% discount on train tickets.

The CEO also appreciated the efforts of the Railway Workshops and Carriage Factory for allowing the department to open new train routes during the year. Furthermore, the Railways CEO mentioned that ATM machines are being installed at the railway stations to assist the public further.
Pakistan Railways currently has 75 Chinese coaches and is in a position to open a couple of more train routes by May this year. The CEO added that 60% of Railway passengers book e-tickets and the department is looking to increase that count to 100% by the end of the year.

Pakistan Railways reportedly earned PKR 58 billion in terms of freight services and Ahmed expressed his hope that the department would manage to increase this revenue to PKR 62 billion this year.
