Rawalpindi: The district administration of Murree will start working on the project to convert Punjab House into a university from next week onwards, a news source reported.

The additional chief secretary, accompanied by several officials, paid a visit to the site on Saturday. They also met MNA Sadaqaat Abbasi and discussed further plans to this effect.
The educational institute has been reportedly named Kohsar University. The Punjab government is also contemplating converting Rawalpindi’s Punjab House and Governor’s Annexe at Civil Lines into varsities.

The Punjab House was built during former chief minister Manzoor Wattoo’s tenure. Constructed on 8.75 acres of land, it currently has at least 100 employees.
At present, the building is being maintained by the Service and General Administration Department (S&GAD). It also serves as the preferred guest house for the chief minister and other top officials.

An official said that the government had directed the district administration to find suitable sites for establishing universities in different tehsils. The revenue department has already started identifying sites.
