Rawalpindi: Eighty percent of the earth and protection work on the Jhelum Bulk Water Scheme has been completed, a news source reported. The project is expected to ease the water shortage in Murree, which requires 3.13 million gallons water per day and the project is set to bring 5.5 million gallons of water per day.
The project includes the construction of a water treatment plant, a pumping station that can pump around 1, 750 million gallons of water, seven water pumping stages, 33 pumps, and an eight-kilometre-long water transmission line from the treatment plant to Dhand, and another 21.5 km-long water transmission line from Dhand to Murree.
According to Rawalpindi Commissioner Jodat Ayaz, the pipes for the project have been bought and cement and mortar lining of the pipes have been completed. Punjab Government is also looking to extend the water scheme to Rawalpindi to mitigate the water shortage faced by the twin cities.
