Quetta: The Supreme Court (SC) Quetta Registry on Wednesday was informed that development work on five dams in Balochistan had been completed — with the ongoing development work being conducted on four additional dams expected to be completed by next year, according to news sources.

This information was revealed during a hearing for a court case regarding the water shortage in Balochistan. The case was presented before the bench of the apex court, presided over by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed. On the occasion, the court was notified that work was underway on the development of 100 small dams in the province. In addition, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Secretary informed the court that the water shortage issue in Balochistan would be resolved once all the dam projects had been completed.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed instructed the PHE to ensure that the construction quality of the dams was not compromised. In response, the Advocate General Balochistan informed the court that the inspection team constituted by the provincial Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan was keeping a close eye on the ongoing projects.
The chief justice further directed the authorities concerned to launch development work on theWinder Dam earlier than planned, and complete all ongoing dam projects within three years.
