Islamabad: Minster for Railways Sheikh Rasheed assured that work on the ML-1 project will begin by the end of 2019, a news source reported. He added that they have already completed the feasibility study and other require paperwork in order to lay down this fast-track system in three phases.

Rasheed also revealed that he has a meeting scheduled with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan for the coming Monday. He added that they will discuss the solution to the bureaucratic impediments faced by the Railways Ministry pertaining to the ML-1 project.
The minister also expressed his concerns regarding railway signals. He said that around 2,500 railway signals were functioning without guards. He added that a review of the system was required in order to resolve this issue.

The ML-1 is a 1,800-kilometre-long dual railway track that will be constructed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative. Once completed, the ML-1 will cut down the commute time between Rawalpindi and Karachi to 10 hours.
