Rawalpindi: The Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar is expected to give the final approval of the signal-free Leh-Expressway project after Eid-ul-Adha and subject to the approval, development work on the project is expected to begin this year, news sources reported. Sources claim that Buzdar and Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid will both be present in this meeting.

The 18-km long Leh Expressway will be built on both sides of the Leh Nullah at a cost of PKR 55 billion. Reportedly, project tenders will be issued following the final clearance of the Punjab CM. In the next three months, the necessary legal criteria regarding the project development will also be sorted. The expressway is being developed by keeping in mind the seasonal inflow of 100,000 cusec water in the flood season.
While speaking to the media, Interior Minister Rasheed stated that the development of Leh Nullah Expressway will enhance the value of properties along the route. People who will be displaced as a result of the project will be given alternative accommodations.

According to the details, the much-awaited signal-free Leh Expressway is being built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and once completed, the project will have five flyovers, three underpasses, and two interchanges with space reserved in commercial zones for multi-storey commercial buildings along the expressway.
The project’s initial length was 30 km. As per the previous estimates, the project was to cost PKR 80 billion; however, it was later reduced to the current length of 18 km. Reportedly, development funds have been set aside for the project.
