Lower Dir: Assistant Project Director Muqeem ud Din on Thursday revealed that developmental work on the Koto Hydropower Project would begin from this week onward, a news source reported. He added that the departments concerned had finalised all the necessary arrangements to this end.

Speaking to journalists, Muqeem stated that work on the Koto Hydropower Project had been stopped in March due to the coronavirus situation in the country. He revealed that 83% of the construction work has been completed so far.
According to the details available, the project was inaugurated in 2015 and construction work was launched in 2016. Previously, the project was due for completion in December 2019, but this was extended till June 2020.
The assistant project director revealed that once completed, the project would generate 40.8 Megawatts of electricity. He added that there was no lack for funds to complete the project. He stated that in terms of revenue, the project would generate PKR 2 billion annually for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) — out of which Lower Dir would receive 10%.

As per sources, this venture is also one of the mega projects initiated by the incumbent government, and is expected to produce a significant number of job opportunities in the province. Meanwhile, the local lawmakers are also seeking an approval for an industrial zone to be developed with the project. For this purpose, they have sent a feasibility report to the government.
