Karachi: The authorities concerned have initiated work on the Thar coal power project, a news source reported. The said project is worth USD 100 million, and is expected to produce 4,500 megawatts of energy, as reported by Provincial Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh.

Sources stated that the pre-budget discussion for the project went smoothly, given that the treasury defended it in the interests of public relief. Meanwhile, Sheikh revealed that the provincial government is working on several other big energy projects, and that work on developing a 4,500-megawatt coal block in Thar would start soon. He added that the existing Thar coal field provides 660 megawatts of electricity.

During the discussion, Sindh Works and Services Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah revealed that the province had assigned PKR 32 billion of the development budget to the roads communications sector. He said that this sector includes 349 schemes, out of which 109 are slated for completion in the current fiscal year.
He also informed that the government had devised a 20-year future road map for Sindh.
