Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday (October 28) announced that the work on Pakistan’s first plastic road has been started, according to media reports. The purpose of this road is to recycle plastic waste.

As per the details shared, the municipal waste daily amounting to 500 to 600 tonnes I daily collected in Islamabad, out of which 150 to 180 tonnes is plastic waste. To decrease environmental pollution, the collected waste must be recycled. On the directives of CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed, a trial road project was started at F-9 Park to recycle plastic.
The plastic road is the first project of its kind in Pakistan that is being constructed in collaboration with a private beverage company. To this effect, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the private company was signed a month ago.

It is pertinent to mention that initially, a one-kilometre road will be constructed and test engineering results will be taken from tomorrow. After that, the technology will be transferred to the asphalt plant of the Machinery Pool Organisation (MPO). If the results of the project are positive, it will be used for roads in other areas of Islamabad.
