Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar stated on Monday (July 12) that the pace of development work on projects launched under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative is accelerating and would advance further in the coming months, a news source reported. He shared these views during a meeting held with the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong.

The minister expressed satisfaction over the work progress on CPEC projects as well as the efforts of the Joint Working Group. Umar further stated that the establishment and operationalization of Special Economic Zones are at the government’s top priority. He believes that these zones will help set up joint ventures in the manufacturing sector, where the arrangement will benefit both sides.

Rong and Umar also discussed the matters relating to the upcoming 10th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), which is set to meet on Friday (July 16). In addition, economic cooperation between the two countries also came under discussion. Ambassador Rong said that the JCC would help further boost the bilateral CPEC trade between the two countries as well as open new avenues of cooperation.
