Mansehra: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan is expected to inaugurate work on the 300 megawatts Balakot Hydropower project in the coming weeks, according to media reports published on May 7.

As per the details, the district administration has acquired 8,000 kanals of land at Paras, Ghanool, Sangar, and Bala Schain patwar circles for the development of the said energy project with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank.
Reportedly, the executive committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has already approved USD 750 million for Balakot Hydropower Project. It was disclosed that the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Department Organisation is seeking applications for the appointments of assistant directors, engineers, and other cadres. It was disclosed that the bidding and selection process of contractors have already been completed. A consortium of companies has been finalised to work on the project.

It is pertinent to note that the project is being executed by Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation at Kunar River in the Kaghan Valley.
