The 10-page judgement authored by Justice Qazi Faez Isa declared that male members of families tend to pressurise women inheritors of the family into giving up their right to own assets, which was a clear violation of the country’s law and shariah. The verdict reproduced a 30-year old statement to support itself; further stating that relinquishment of inherited properties by women stood in contradiction to the public policy – as defined in reference to the Islamic jurisprudence.

Justice Isa passed this ruling while presiding over an inheritance dispute case filed by two sisters, who stated that their brother had deprived them of their inheritance share. To this effect, bench members Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and others also endorsed the said verdict.
