Gilgit: A high-altitude winter sports competition ended after a week in Shimshal Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, according to a news source. This is one of the world’s highest sports arenas in the world.
The first ever high-altitude winter snow race was attempted and completed by 12 participants, which included two females. Mansoor Karim stood first, Ahmed Baig from Shimshal was second, while Shah Daulat stood third.
This event was organised by Pakistan Youth Outreach Foundation (PYOF). It was held at a record-high 4,100 metres in Hunza’s Shimshal Valley. It included a basic football ground, cricket ground, and rock-climbing course. Mountain biking and ultra-trail running were also part of the programme. Around 30 boys and girls participated in this camp.
The purpose and ultimate goal of these activities is to promote skiing & adventure tourism in Pakistan. It will open the vistas for new activities and promote both domestic and foreign tourism in Pakistan.
