Lahore: The Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) has embarked on restoring and beautifying the Mall Road under the Dilkash Lahore project, news sources reported on December 2.

The PKR 487.7 million project will restructure and beautify the road between Charring-Cross to Old Tollinton Market. In the first phase of the project, the development of recreational areas, including public gathering places, public sitting areas, and electric lighting, with traditional activities will also be done and billboards, directional signs and historical plaques will also be placed at different locations.

Speaking to the media, WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari said that the project will greatly enhance the Lahore visitors’ experience and will attract more tourists to the city. He said that Mall Road has always been the heart of Lahore and this can not be emphasised more than this. This is why WCLA has decided to spend a huge amount of money on the project.

It is vital to mention that the WCLA is in charge of maintaining and preserving the city’s historic and culturally significant structures and monuments. The WCLA recently inked an agreement with the French government to restore the historic Lahore Fort to its former splendor while also preserving sensitive places.
