Lahore: The territorial jurisdiction of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) is all set to undergo an expansion gig within and beyond Punjab, a news source reported. Previously, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had issued orders to this effect during his visit to the city in May.
WCLA is responsible for the protection and conservation of heritage sites, determining penalties for damaging buildings, and running the functions of the Old City of Lahore. Previously, the prime minister had directed the provincial authorities to hand over administrative control of tourism and religious sites to the WCLA.
PM Khan also instructed WCLA Director General (DG) Kamran Lashari to introduce measures for the revival of the historic Bala Hisar Fort in Peshawar. In addition to managing the historic structure, WCLA has been handed over the control of various sites in Multan.
The body will also have administrative control of the Rawalpindi Walled City. Similarly, the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has requested WCLA to restore Lal Qila in Muzaffarabad. The governments of Balochistan and Sindh have also sought WCLA’s services for their historical and cultural sites. Sources also revealed that administrative control of the Peshawar Walled City has also been handed over to Lashari, on the directives of the PM.
