Lahore: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has officially declared 15 historic sites as heritage properties, according to news published on July 25.

This decision was made during a recent session of the Heritage Conservation Board of the authority, where a careful review of 18 properties took place for consideration.
The selected properties are now protected under the provisions of the WCLA Act 2012, and they include Nisar Haveli, Noori Building, Gurdwara Janam Astan, Samadi Bhai Mani Singh, Baoli Bagh, Government Rang Mahal School, Jain Hall, Historical House (Qamar Manzil), Deputies House, Shamsheer Singh Haveli, Haveli Wajid Ali Shah, Tehsil Haveli Makhzanul Aloom Building, Khalifa Manzil, and Sabeel Wali Gali. The process of selection involved meticulous research and analysis by the conservation board, leading to the identification of these 15 sites as invaluable components of Lahore’s architectural and cultural heritage. With this recent addition, the total count of heritage properties declared under the WCLA Act 2012 has now reached 52.
Kamran L Ashari, the Director-General of WCLA, emphasised that their department’s priority is to ensure that the local community benefits from their efforts. Preserving these historical sites not only safeguards the city’s past but also creates opportunities for present and future generations to connect with their roots.

Tania Qureshi, the official spokesperson of WCLA, highlighted that with this recent declaration, the authority reinforces its dedication to safeguarding Lahore’s timeless legacy.
