Lahore: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has announced its decision to rehabilitate and conserve the tomb of Baloch leader Mir Chakar-e-Azam Rind situated in Okara, a news source reported. The authority’s decision had come following the directives issued by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar.

Buried in Stagira, Okara, Mir Chakar Khan Rind was a Baloch chieftain during the 15th century. He is widely recognised as a folk hero and a significant figure in the Balochi folklore, titled ‘Hani and Sheh Mureed’. As per historical narrations, Rind was the first ruler of Balochistan and had set up the first Kingdom of Balochistan.
In a bid to conserve the province’s heritage and promote tourism, the Punjab CM had taken the initiative for restoration of the tomb, along with the allied Sikh time period walled city. The project also aims to realise the Punjab government’s vision for inter-provincial harmony.

The WCLA will follow the prescribed guidelines of conservation to carry out the restoration project of the Rind tomb, along with promoting tourism in the province. In this regard, the authority has completed all formalities, which also include the tendering process.
WCLA will commence with the physical work on October 1, and expects to complete the project within one year’s time.
