Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Financing and Revenue Shaukat Fayyaz Ahmed Tarin met with World Bank Country Director (WBCD) Najy Benhassine on Wednesday to discuss the prospect of additional funds for housing finance in the country, according to press reports.

During the said meeting, held to examine problems in the housing industry, the WB official shared international financial institution’s proposed credit facilities for ‘various interventions in the housing sector totaling USD 290 million’. He also assured that WB fully supports the government in development of the housing sector, especially the low-cost housing initiatives.

Furthermore, the finance minister expressed gratitude for WB’s help and reaffirmed that the housing sector remains a priority for the government. He emphasised the importance of the housing industry to overall economic growth. Mr Tarin also instructed the relevant authorities to finalise all details and complete all actions about the proposed WB financing within a few days.
