Islamabad: The World Bank (WB) on Sunday announced its decision to support Pakistan’s disaster resilience and ecosystem restoration efforts, a news source reported. To this effect, both sides are expected to sign an agreement during a ceremony hosted today (Monday).

In this regard, WB will support Pakistan’s various initiatives via timely and reliable forecasting and efficient disaster risk management services. It would also help the country with its growing environmental challenges.
WB will provide Pakistan with funding support for a five-year plan worth USD 188 million. The project called Pakistan Hydromet & Ecosystem Restoration Services (PHERS) will conclude during Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-25.

Climate Change Ministry’s media focal person Muhammad Saleem stated that the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) Pakistan would implement the said project in the county. He added that the project would make Pakistan environmentally resilient through mainstreaming adaptation and mitigation efforts via various components. These components include afforestation, conservation of biodiversity, land degradation neutrality, and more.
