Karachi: Karachi Administrator Barrister Murtaza Wahab said on Thursday (September 1) that the World Bank (WB) will help the city administration restore flood-affected roads in Karachi, news sources reported. The WB will provide funds and technical support to Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) on an urgent basis.

The announcement came following a meeting between KMC members and the WB delegation, which offered funds to the city. According to Wahab, the funds would be utilised to restore and repair the city’s roads, arteries, bridges, underpasses, and flyovers. Furthermore, before the commencement of construction, the city government will work on restoring sewage lines. Wahab stated that the KMC and other administrations will collaborate with WB experts to analyse the flood damage before preparing an official proposal. The proposal will aid in determining the extent of damage to critical infrastructure and locations. He stated that the administration will do everything possible to rehabilitate and develop the city that has been devastated by rain.

It is important to mention that the city has been inundated by rains that triggered urban flooding and damaged several buildings and roads. The city has seen unprecedented rains during the monsoon.
