Islamabad: The World Bank (WB) has announced its decision to support the Punjab government’s efforts to improve access to affordable housing and help formulate a comprehensive strategy to this effect, according to news sources published on Saturday (November 13).

As per the details, the WB will help the Punjab government align the ‘Punjab Affordable Housing Programme’ with ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Programme’ to coordinate both initiatives in a better way and leverage federal resources that will be available for interventions in Punjab.
Moreover, the WB technical assistance will strengthen institutions, policy reforms, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the housing supply. The appraisal of the project will start next month and it is expected that the executive board will approve financing in February.

Reportedly, the Punjab government asked WB’s assistance for the establishment of an affordable housing project to facilitate housing for low-income groups. The total cost of the project is USD 200 million.
