Swabi: The President of the World Bank David R. Malpass praised the timely completion of the Tarbela Fourth Extension Hydropower Project, a news source reported. This leg of the project was completed in less than the estimated cost. He expressed these views on Thursday while visiting the site of the project.

Wapda Chairman retired Lt. Gen. Muzammil Hussain told those present at the occasion that the Tarbela Dam Project released as much as 378 Million Acre-Feet/Year (MAF) to meet irrigation and farming needs and the Tarbela Hydel Power Station generated 523 billion units of electricity for the national grid. Additionally, the new extension had generated 5.6 billion units, which is higher than projected by the PC-1 of this project.

The World Bank is collaborating with Pakistan on various projects to help the country harness water and hydropower resources. Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda said he was hopeful that this collaboration continues in the future to help Pakistan progress. He appreciated the financial support the World Bank has provided for Dasu Hydropower Project, the Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project, and the upcoming Tarbela 5th extension hydropower project.
