The following are the reasons for the plan:
- DEEP aims to improve access to digital services, particularly broadband, and reduce the digital divide in Pakistan.
- It will assist in reforms for better broadband connectivity and a stronger legal framework for the digital economy.
- Implementation agencies like MoITT, NADRA, and BoI will receive technical support under DEEP.
- Secure information exchange among government bodies and a digital ‘wallet’ for citizens are included.
- The project has three main components: improving the digital economy, governance, and service capabilities; establishing a Pakistan Business Portal; and managing the project.
- Despite Pakistan’s digital efforts, it lags in infrastructure, government services, and the digital economy environment.
