Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Wednesday (September 1) announced that World Bank (WB) has provided USD 120 million for the Green Stimulus project to be launched next month by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, according to media reports.

According to the details shared, Pakistan is the only country to have received funds for such a project. He went on to say that all the preparatory work is complete with the collaboration of all the provinces. The initiative is expected to create 20,000 green jobs and the government aims to accomplish the target of planting 1.5 billion trees by the year-end.
The special assistant disclosed that nearly 85,000 jobs have been created under the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Initiative. He stated that around 500,000 jobs were created in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the target of 1 billion trees is already accomplished.

Sharing more details, Amin Aslam revealed that the Green Stimulus Initiative falls under the 10 Billion Tree programme, similar to Olive Tree Tsunami and Mangrove Forest initiatives. The Protected Area Initiative was started during the COVID-19 outbreak. Under this programme, 15 national parks have been constructed, increasing the number from 30 to 45 national parks.
