Lahore: The Punjab government and the World Bank (WB) on Wednesday agreed to cooperate on developing various sectors of the national economy; including agriculture, food, education, livestock, tourism, urban development and environment — according to news sources.
They came to this agreement during a meeting between Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar and a delegation of the World Bank, led by Country Director Patchamuthu Illangovan. During the session, the two parties discussed the various initiatives funded by WB and the different way in which they could expand bilateral cooperation. They also agreed to fast-track the development of the Punjab cities programme and the Punjab green development programme.

Chief Minister Buzdar appreciated WB’s cooperation and said that the early completion of WB assisted projects will be ensured in order to promote public welfare.

Patchamuthu Illangovan stated that the WB would keep on working with the Punjab government in the future. The planning and development secretary informed the meeting that the WB was providing funds of USD 1.7 billion to support nine projects, while four other projects costing 645 million were currently in the pipeline.
