Islamabad: The World Bank (WB) has decided to provide funds of USD 1.3 billion to Pakistan for housing relief, agriculture, and emergency in the wake of recent catastrophic floods, according to news published on November 16.

WB Regional Director for Sustainable Development John A Roome announced that the bank will provide financial support to farmers in flood-hit areas across the country. The regional director met with Minister for National Food Security and Research Tariq Bashir and informed him about the upcoming board meeting in December.

During the meeting, the minister stated that the farming community suffered colossal losses and mentioned that the government will provide relief and assistance to farmers. He stressed that the provincial and federal governments, WB and other stakeholders should work together for the rehabilitation of the flood-affectees. Minister Bashir mentioned that assistance and relief to the farming community will help in achieving food security.
