Karachi: The World Bank (WB) will provide financial assistance to the Sindh government for the launch of a housing project worth PKR 110 billion, for the flood affectees, according to a news story published in the national dailies on October 1.

Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah held a virtual meeting with the WB Country Director for Pakistan Najy Benhassine. The news source mentioned that a special unit will be set up under the provincial chief secretary. The CM revealed that teams have already been deployed in the province to clear water from towns and villages. He added that the de-watering process is in progress and will be completed within one and a half months.
Moreover, CM Shah notified the WB country director that the Sindh government will start the construction of houses for the flood victims after the floodwater has been drained. He went on to say that the government wanted to provide houses for the flood affectees as soon as possible because of the winter season.

Additionally, the CM also discussed the damaged infrastructure of Karachi with assistance from WB. The minister stated that PKR 13 billion was required for the rehabilitation and restoration of damaged roads. In response to this, the WB has constituted a committee to provide funds of PKR 6 billion.
