The CM said that the SSWMA was a new organisation which would require time to build expertise and reach international standards. In response, Dr Dameh agreed to provide USD 10 million to the organisation in order to facilitate improvements in its technical operations and capacity building, as well as to fund the construction of a new landfill site in Karachi.
The landfill site will be constructed over a piece of land provided by the government, measuring 500 acres, available on the outskirts of Karachi. The CM stated that the SSWMA, with the assistance of the World Bank, was aiming to make the site a modern and environmentally friendly endeavour.
