Karachi: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Sunday (October 9) said that the World Bank (WB) has pledged PKR 110 billion for the construction of houses for the flood victims, news sources reported.

The funds will be issued by the bank as part of the flood rehabilitation mechanism. According to the minister, a firm would be constituted with Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah as the CEO to administer the funds responsibly and transparently. He remarked that rehabilitation in Sindh has become important due to the devastating floods that have affected millions of people. He also stated that the World Bank will support the government in compensating for agricultural damages. Additionally, PKR 13 billion will be required to rebuild the metropolis’ infrastructure.

It is critical to note that a disastrous flood in August and September caused significant damage to the country’s infrastructure. Sindh has been hit the worst by the flood since it is located at the end of the river channels. The government anticipates a total loss of USD 40 billion across the country and has asked international donors to help with the rehabilitation of flood affectees.
