The chairman for the commission, Justice (retd) Amir Hani Muslim, visited the said park upon the request of Central District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Chairperson Rehan Hashmi. During his visit, he observed the use of grey water in the park under a green initiative scheme launched by a local society. He noted that the project not only benefitted the park, but its surrounding areas too.
Justice (retd) Muslim has recommended for the application of the scheme in larger parks, including Karachi Zoo, Benazir Park, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim, and Sarfari Park. He elaborated that this will bring about a huge difference, and reduce the pressure on filtered potable water.
The chairman said that grey water was a feasible option for gardening and maintaining green patches. This would help lessen the discharge of sewage into the sea.
He has directed the provincial government to meet with officials in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and Karachi Development Authority, along with the DMCs concerned, for discussing the implementation of this initiative.
