Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and the municipal corporation have announced their joint decision to make it mandatory for all housing societies, new homes, and plazas to install water tanks on their properties — for the purpose of collecting and conserving rain water, a news source reported. As per the publication, the government departments hope that the collected water can then be utilized for menial chores, like washing cars and cleaning floors — among other things.

This decision has already been approved and will be notified soon. All societies, homes and plazas have now been mandated to include water tanks for this purpose in their project layouts and maps. If they fail to do so, they will face the prospect of paying hefty fines, and the development authority may also refuse to grant them the necessary approvals required to begin developmental work on their respective properties.

In another development, the Parks & Horticulture Authority (PHA) has decided to construct a “Welcome Rawalpindi” gate at the entrance to the city, near Rawat — with the collaboration of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce. PHA Director General Shafqat Raza recently surveyed the area selected for the construction of the gate himself, and approved of its purchase.
