Rawalpindi: Water supply from Khanpur Dam to Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been resumed, according to a news source. The supply was stopped on February 1 due to the 1desilting of the dam’s open water channel.
The water levels in Khanpur Dam and Rawal Dam were expected to increase because of snow and rainfall in the Murree Region. Desilting to remove sediment deposits in the 12 kilometre long open water channel that transports water from Khanpur Dam to Tamir Sang Jani Water Filtration Plant was deemed important to increase the water supply to the twin cities.
This had created water shortage in Rawalpindi & Islamabad, where the residents were forced to purchase water through tanks.
