Lahore: The Lahore Commissioner has notified his staff to install water tanks and recycling units in four major mosques in the city, in order to conserve and reuse around 1.2 million gallons of water every day, a news source reported. These water recycling plants will be installed in Masjid-e-Shauhda, Masjid-e-Khizra, Jamia Naeemia, and Jamia Ashrafia.

The project for water conservation was initiated on the direct instructions of the Water Commission and the recycled and treated water is meant to be used for watering various parks and greenbelts in Lahore. The project is expected to cost PKR 20.3 million, as per the estimates shared by the news source, and will help save over 40,000 gallons of water on a daily basis.

Additionally, various other methods are also being utilized to conserve water in Lahore, as the underground water table of the city has now dropped to 800 feet. As per earlier reports, chances are very high that this water table will dry-up by 2025.
The LDA had previously directed the public against washing their cars at home, and also instructed car wash stations to install water recycling plants.
