Hyderabad: The Water and Sewerage board has decided to install automatic meter readers on commercial water connections, a news source reported. The decision has been taken to overcome the losses which the board has been incurring.
According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, there are at least 960,000 water connections in the city. And some 150,000 meter readers remain non-functional.
With more than 10,000 commercial water connections in the city, only 4,000 water taps are registered under an automatic meter reading system, which costs somewhere between PKR 35,000 to PKR 40,000.
Consumers will be asked to pay for the installation of automatic meters through instalments, which will be reflected in their monthly water bills. The board will also issue notices to the owners to get the meters installed within 15 days.
