Peshawar: Caretaker Minister for Local Government Election & Rural Development Department (LGE&RDD) Advocate Sawal Nazir launched the first-of-its-kind Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System (Dewats) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to news published on February 15.

Reportedly, the newly-inaugurated wastewater treatment systems have been developed at Wazirbagh Park in Peshawar by the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) with financial and technical assistance from UNICEF. The system will treat sewerage water from the surrounding locales and repurpose it for the irrigation of the park. During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Nazir was briefed on the project’s overall aspects, including environmental benefits, community benefits and overall cost.

The minister lauded the development and termed it the right step for converting potable water and curbing water pollution. He also thanked UNICEF fit its assistance.
