Islamabad: Ministry of Climate Change Secretary Hassan Nasir Jamal has said that a waste disposal plant will be installed in the capital city to facilitate the preparation of industrial fuels through the transformation of thousands of tons of solid waste produced in Islamabad on a daily basis, a news source reported.

Secretary Jamal shared this information while addressing the business community at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Wednesday. Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat was also present at the occasion.

The secretary revealed that Islamabad lacked proper arrangements for disposal of thousands of tons of waste produced daily. To address these issues, the authorities concerned plan to launch an urban forest project in both Lahore and Islamabad to facilitate the tree plantation campaign.
He also mentioned that several housing schemes in Islamabad had planted 600,000 saplings, while the federal government aimed to plant 10 billion trees across the country during its five-year tenure.

For promoting the tree plantation campaign in the capital, land as well as the plant species best suitable for the area had been identified, said the secretary. The list will be shared with the business community soon so that they can plant trees in industrial and commercial areas to help the government make 10 billion trees tsunami project a success.
