Lahore: On Monday, Punjab Chief Secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar ordered the relevant authorities to accelerate work on the waste to energy project, a news source reported. He issued these orders during a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat to review progress being made on the project.

Khokhar also ordered the improvement of coordination between the provincial department and the federal government to remove bottlenecks, as garbage dumping adversely affects humans, livestock and land. He added that the project will help overcome environmental pollution and act as an effective waste management scheme, in addition to its aim of increasing power supply within the country.

The faults in the waste management systems of various cities is being looked into for this purpose, leading to cleaner cities before long. The project will produce power using garbage, which will lead to an improved waste management system. The project is initially being introduced in five major cities, namely Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad.
