Quetta: Chief Secretary Balochistan Fazeel Asghar recently announced the provincial government’s plan to launch a waste-to-energy project in the city — with the venture falling under the auspices of the ‘Clean & Green Quetta’ initiative, according to news sources.

The chief secretary revealed this information while addressing a one-day seminar titled ‘Commodities, Price Control, Clean & Green Quetta’; held at the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC). He further said that the city administration was working to operationalise the city’s sewerage treatment plant and that international experts were expected to develop a solid waste management plant for the provincial capital.
Mr. Asghar additionally expressed his dissatisfaction over the city’s current cleanliness and sanitation situation, and asked the city administration to make improvements in this regard. Furthermore, he insisted on a complete ban on the use of plastic/polythene bags, and declared them hazardous for the environment and all life forms.

Secretary Fazeel Asghar further stated that a plantation drive was being launched, under which the government planned to plant trees in every house in the city. Additionally, he said that all workshops, dairy farms and other such business entities would be asked to move to the city’s outskirts in order to beautify Quetta. He added that methods needed to be formulated to control the prices of essential commodities and that a committee would soon be constituted for this purpose.
