Karachi: Sindh Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Secretary Syed Najam Ahmed presided over a meeting to discuss a permanent solution to the persisting waste disposal and cleanliness issues of the city, a news source reported on March 5.
The growing population of the city is also leading to increase in waste and its timely disposal is important to minimize the chances of spreading of diseases. To this effect, Syed Najam Ahmed said an awareness campaign will be launched with the advice of an expert along with a strategy to counter the issue. The strategy will include door-to-door garbage collection and moving garbage vehicles.

The meeting was also attended by Managing Director, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Zubair Channa who told the meeting that currently contractors for this project are being hired which is solely on merit basis. He also told that monitoring units at district level will be set up.
The town planning secretary emphasized the need to ensure uninterrupted collection of waste material from garbage transfer stations and their transfer to landfill sites. He instructed the on-ground and field staff to perform their duties on a daily basis and also maintain record of landfill site collections.
