Dera Ghazi Khan: The Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs) of major cities; including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan have been tasked with assisting the municipal authorities of Dera Ghazi Khan in the latter’s cleanliness campaign efforts – a news source reported.
DG Khan Commissioner Mudassar Malik expressed his views on the matter during a press briefing on Thursday. He revealed that the city produced 210 tonnes of garbage on a daily basis; adding that the local administration lacked the resources to address this pressing concern.

He said that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar recently issued directives to the managements of the said agencies to resolve the sanitation problems of Dera Ghazi Khan.
Commissioner Malik said that DG Khan had only 175 sanitation workers in its 17 union councils, while Bahawalpur had at least individuals working in its 23 UCs.

Moreover, he lauded the efforts of a cement company with regard to the donation of 17 motorcycle-rickshaws to facilitate garbage collection efforts. He added that WASA and the solid waste management companies of other cities would assist the DG Khan authorities until the city’s new waste management company launched its services; expected to commence within three months.
